The Author

Hey, I’m yootie (yoo-tea | juːti | ユーティ), the author of Sunspot! I’ve been writing this story part-time since June 2024. It’s my first work of original fiction and easily the biggest creative project I’ve embarked on to date. I’m blown away by the support it’s received from readers and fellow authors alike.

My inspirations among webfiction include The Wandering Inn and Katalepsis, both of which I wholeheartedly recommend. No, I’ve never read Bioshifter. I cover some of Sunspot’s other key inspirations, impetus, and ideas in the Arc 1 Author’s Note.

Other than writing, I draw, play roguelikes, and cook. I’m also responsible for the development of the website you’re on right now.

Beta readers

Although Sunspot is my brainchild and my passion, I would struggle to complete chapters to a satisfactory level of quality week by week without the help of my beta readers. They work tirelessly to catch typos, note inconsistencies, give input on the direction of the story, and most importantly help me get to my desired word count goals day after day. They do professional-quality work for free, and I’m very grateful, which is why you see me thank them in every chapter. Here they are:

  • Cassiopeia
  • The Softies
  • Maria (also the webmaster for this site)
  • Zak
  • Zooloo
  • Selenium
  • Penguin

If you’re interested in joining this team, applications are run via the Discord at the end of every arc.

Artists

I’m something of an artist myself, but I prefer to commission professional work for Sunspot’s covers, logo, and site assets. Your support on Patreon helps me pay these artists.

  • Sunspot’s logo and many of its site assets were created by Darrin Michelson. He is a professional logo designer and an absolute pleasure to work with. View his portfolio at orangeartist.com
  • The cover art for Trick Of The Light is by @soratxn. You can find their work on Twitter and Instagram.
  • Character art commission series by @grimmjeow. Check out their portfolio and comm sheet.

I am constantly seeking to commission more art for the story. If you have an artist who you think would do a rockin’ job bringing something from Sunspot to life, send me their links on Discord or Bluesky!
